Type roman. Get Urdu.
A free, offline keyboard that turns the letters you already type into correct Urdu. No install, no internet, no learning a new layout. A Windows beta is included.
Live demo
The real keyboard is embedded below. Type roman words like mujhe paani chahiye and watch Urdu appear. Try both spellings: thora and thora both give تھوڑا.
What it does
Roman Urdu has no fixed spelling. This keyboard reads your roman input, picks the right Urdu word, and learns from your fixes.
Type and see Urdu
Live transliteration as you type. Common words resolve from a large built-in dictionary.
Pick the right word
When one roman spelling means several Urdu words, candidate chips let you choose.
Both spellings
Handles Indian and Pakistani romanization. kadam and qadam both reach the right word.
Your own words
Add words, export your list, import it later. Your dictionary travels with the file.
English passes through
Mixed text stays readable. Known English words are kept as roman, not mangled.
Works offline
A single HTML file. Open it from disk, no server, no account, no tracking.
Download
Free for personal and community use. No commercial redistribution.

We would rather tell you now than have it fail in front of you.
This is a beta. The browser keyboard is solid. The Windows build is still being finished and tested.
- It is not a system IME, so a few apps that block injected keystrokes will not receive output.
- The Windows package is unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen may warn on first run. That is expected for a free beta.
- Transliteration is statistical, not perfect. The candidate picker and your own word list are how you fix it.
- On Android, SwiftKey and Gboard already do Roman Urdu well. This project targets Windows, offline, and free.
